Mars2020 en twee andere sondes maken zich klaar voor hun lancering naar de Rode Planeet. Mars2020 gaat op zoek naar sporen van leven dat zich misschien vroeger op de planeet bevond. Wat als er inderdaad ooit leven was? En er misschien nog is? Het zijn zo van die vragen die we ons stellen met het oog op het sturen van mensen naar Mars en de mogelijke gevolgen voor het leven ginder. Planetary Protection werkt trouwens in twee richtingen. Want met Mars2020 wordt een eerste stap gezet in het ophalen van een bodemmonster. Niet onlogisch dat NASA die planeet beschermende maatregelen opnieuw bekijkt.
